2 Buzz Words Slogan – (n). A distinctive cry, phrase, or motto of any party, group, manufacturer, or person; catchphrase; a war cry or gathering cry Just Do It… Nike Save Money, Live BetterWal-Mart Betcha Can’t Eat Just OneLays

3 Buzz Words Protest – (n). An expression or declaration of objection, disapproval, or dissent, often in opposition to something a person is powerless to prevent or avoid Ex: The truest form of protest I experience at school is when it’s time for students to give up their phones. Ex: The three-finger signal is a simple, yet controversial protest in Hunger Games.

4 Buzz Words Bias – (n). A particular tendency, trend, inclination, feeling, or opinion, especially one that is preconceived or unreasoned; unreasonable hostile feelings or opinions about a social group; prejudice Ex: Do you feel the reporter showed bias against males when she only interviewed female nurses? Ex: Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant fans have bias against Lebron James because he is in line to take over their legacies of greatness.

6 Reflection Choose one of the three most recent slogans that is explained in the article. 1.Explain how it is being used to represent the particular issue that is being protested. 2.Share your opinion on how effective it is. (does it speak to the issues being protested against? Is it catchy/easy to remember? Is it mentally and emotionally provoking?)
