1 SGI Confidential 6 - 1 Application Processor

2 SGI Confidential 6 - 2 Application Processor Overview Application Field Replaceable Units The Application Processor (AP) Chassis, motherboard, CPUs Power supplies in the AP Disk drives in the AP FC HBAs in the AP Fans in the AP DIMMs in the AP RMM3 PCB (BMC) The application processor (AP) is the INTEL SR2600 (URBANA) server that runs the VTL software and CentOS Linux Operating System. The AP provides the interface between the SAN clients and the SGI COPAN storage subsystem. The HBA performs low-level I/O functions with minimal involvement from the controller and controller processors.

13 SGI Confidential 6 - 13 Application Processor OS Installation Configure the Internal Hardware RAID Controller 1. See DOC00511 for the procedure for setting up the server’s internal hardware RAID controller. Operating System Installation 1. Insert the DVD containing the OS installation image into the DVD drive of the Application Processor. 2. Reboot the Application Processor. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the OS. Configure OS Network Settings 1. Configure the following network settings on the Application Processor: Hostname IP address, if applicable Netmask NTP Server

20 SGI Confidential 6 - 20 Module Review Questions This completes the Application Processor module. Answer the review questions before proceeding. 01. List the Application Processor FRUs? 02. Are the system drives mirrored? If so, which HDD slots are mirrored? 03. What is the default login and password for the AP? 04. What is the default login and password for the RMM3 ? 05. If the default login and password fail, what is alternate login method ? 06. What does HBR-M mean? 07. Where do you look to see the AP’s boot saved messages? 08. Where is the VTL boot log located? 09. List two ways to access the BMC. 10. Describe the AP OS installation. 11. Which Ethernet port connects to the PSM? Which connect to the customer network?

21 SGI Confidential 6 - 21 Lab Project Using applicable service documentation, you will be given 45 minutes to: Perform FRU replacement procedures Observe LEDs under normal conditions Access the BMC and run various commands to determine state, status, temperature, voltages, etc…. View Logs Download and review the procedure to configure the RAID card. Perform this procedure as time allows.
