W HAT IS D IFFERENT ABOUT THE F LORIDA S TANDARDS A SSESSMENTS ? Assesses the higher expectations of the Florida Standards Provides a basis for comparing Florida performance to that of other states Emphasizes analytical thinking Provides a more authentic assessment through a variety of item formats Increased complexity of texts Focus on foundational math skills and application in novel, real- world situations Increased focus on justifying and presenting results and methods Critical reading and writing infused across all curricular areas Re-ordering of math content to reflect research-based path to college and career readiness

S ECTION 1008.25 F LORIDA S TATUTE A student may be promoted to grade 4 if the student demonstrates mastery in one of several ways: Students must score at a Level 2 or higher on the Grade 3 FSA ELA Reading Assessment A student may demonstrate reading skills equal to or above FSA ELA Level 2 performance through one of the alternative assessments.

Read different types of books and informational text with your child Ask your child to find answers to questions in the text of books, newspaper articles, manuals, etc. Encourage your child to form and defend an opinion by supporting it with facts, details and reasons from text Discuss mathematics ideas with your child have them explain these to you using pictures, graphs, etc. Visit the Florida Standards Assessment online portal at: www.fsassessments.orgwww.fsassessments.org to become familiar with the new assessments.
