1 LandWarNet 2020 and Beyond Enterprise Architecture
Event: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ LandWarNet 2020 and Beyond Enterprise Architecture November 4, 2014 Briefer:

2 CIO/G-6 Vision Event: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ Vision The Network must be capable, reliable, and trusted. To get there it has to be a single, secure, and standards-based environment that ensures access at the point of need and enables global collaboration. Mission Lead LandWarNet transformation to deliver timely, trusted, and shared information. Create an environment where innovation and service empowers Army and mission partners through an unsurpassed responsive, collaborative, and trusted information enterprise. November 4, 2014 Briefer:

3 Context of the Enterprise Architecture
Event: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ Context of the Enterprise Architecture What it is: A design focused translation of the Army Network Strategy Strategic level guidance on how LandWarNet will be designed and configured to meet the ‘ends’ described in the strategy Aligned with the DoD IEA v2.0 What it says: Sets required architectural characteristics on how the Network will be built between now and 2020 Focuses on all aspects of the network – transport, computing, enterprise services, mission applications, end-user devices, and mission assurance Decomposes the LWN strategy and provides structure for understanding, designing, building and maintaining components What it achieves: Assures that IT investments and other decisions are aligned with the Army Network Strategy Informs all LandWarNet stakeholders of required architectural characteristics and technical standards Identifies the architectural characteristics of LandWarNet that are required to achieve the vision. Provides overarching architectural characteristics for transforming the network Inform ‘down-stream’ architecture development efforts such as Enterprise Reference Architectures and ASA(ALT) System Architectures Identify the architectural characteristics of LandWarNet that are required to achieve the vision. 4 CIO/G-6 Architecture Development
Event: CIO/G-6 Architecture Development YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ The LandWarNet Enterprise Architecture addresses IT standards and the Common Operating Environment. Enterprise Reference Architectures provide timely architectural guidance that is applied to, and supports, a business objective of the Army. Reference Architectures follow a rules-based methodology that organizes architecture data around operational and system rules to solve a specific problem set or enable a specific capability. The rules-based approach produces architecture information that is clear and understandable, and enables accurate and relevant policy, investment, and acquisition decisions. The intent of this approach is to guide and synchronize Army investment and acquisition decisions, enable the standardization of LandWarNet materiel solutions. 5 Technical Standards and COE v3.0
Event: PSM Luncheon Technical Standards and COE v3.0 1 October 2014 Proactive standards baseline development New Army CIO/G-6 process Informs industry on current and future Army direction COE v3.0 standards baseline (StdV-1) approved 31 July 2014 Shorter compliance testing and validation process Reuse artifacts created throughout to create final package Based on CIO/G-6 standards and architectures Testing process being finalized Waivers are submitted thru PEOs and PMs to CIO/G-6 To meet operational requirements, LWN 2020 and beyond, “has to be a single, secure, standards-based environment that ensures access at the point of need and enables global collaboration.” Commercial standards enable our industry partners to support our efforts Army standards profile guidance for COEv3.0 approve by CIO/G-6 on 31 Jul 2014 Provides the standards baseline that apply to all systems integrated into COEv3.0 Includes a list of Army technical standards (StdV-1), standards profiles, and methodology description PEOs and PMs must comply with mandated DISR standards and the standards listed in the COEv3.0 standards profile guidance per AR 25-1 Directly impacts industry partner designs in support of COEv3.0 Waivers against this requirement are submitted to the CIO/G-6 by PEOs and PMs Standards and architectures provide the Army CIO/G-6 with a criteria to perform compliancy validation testing on all systems to be implemented into COE Testing strategy is being finalized between ASA(ALT), CIO/G-6, and US Army Test and Evaluation Command Industry solutions being integrated by the PMs and PEOs will be tested to ensure compliance November 4, 2014 Host: LTG Robert Ferrell

6 Context of the Army Standards Profile Guidance
Army Standards Profile Guidance Package TAB A - Core TAB B – Use Cases Appendix C to Annex A of LandWarNet 2020 & Beyond Enterprise Architecture TAB C - Description November 4, 2014

7 Summary The Army CIO/G6 envisions a single, secure, and standards-based network in the future. The LandWarNet Enterprise Architecture and Reference Architectures identify the minimum architectural characteristics of the network that are required to achieve the vision. The rules-based approach produces architecture information that timely, and enables accurate and relevant policy, investment, and acquisition decisions. The intent is to guide and synchronize Army investment and acquisition decisions, enable the standardization of LandWarNet materiel solutions. November 4, 2014
