2 Time Machine to the Early 1800s!
Imagine you have taken a time machine back to the early 1800s, and Meriwether Lewis has invited you to be a member of the Corps of Discovery! Throughout the course of the 28-month-long journey, you have a great deal of interaction with key historical figures including Lewis, Clark, Sacajawea, and York. You will gather information about each of these individuals as you get to know them throughout the journey and will record what you learn in your diary.

3 Step One Gather information about the experiences and perspectives of Lewis, Clark, Sacajawea, and York. Use the information from “The Journey of Lewis and Clark” interactive in this lesson for your research. You may find it helpful to use this Research Chart to gather and record your information. Lewis                       Clark                       Sacajawea                York                       Describe each  individual (background, personality, etc.) Describe the  role he/she played  in the journey. Describe this  individual’s feelings  towards the journey and  the mission he/she  was tasked with. Describe how  this individual  interacted with others. Include any other  information that stood  out to you about  this individual.

5 Step Two Create a diary to record the information you learn about each of the key historical figures. Include at least one paragraph-long diary entry for each individual. Guidelines: Your diary should be authentic, as if you were a part of the journey of Lewis and Clark. The information in your diary must be historically accurate. Each diary entry must include: A date and should be written in first-person perspective. A description of the journey experiences of each historical figure An explanation of the perspectives of the journey for each of the historical figures Authentic diary entries, written in first-person perspective as a person living in the early 1800s Be creative and have fun with your diary entries!
