6 ISO Standard 17024: Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification of Persons  ISO 17024 requires that certification bodies operate independent of other (training) operations, yet we must provide a list of resources to examination candidates.  The Institute now has a CERTIFICATION BLUEPRINT for each new certification that guides examination candidates toward selected preparatory resources – such as training, publications, etc.  The Institute will work with NACE departments that may choose to develop an array of supporting resources, including:  Training Courses  Workshops/Seminars  Regional Offerings  Publications  Etc. New Institute Programs Focus: ISO 17024 and Resource Integration

7  New Certification, Q1 2015  Technical understanding and knowledge of Standard NACE-ANSI MR0175/ISO 15156  Materials selection in upstream sour service conditions and environmental conditions  2-hour multiple choice open book exam with 1-hour essay with problem solving/case study (planned)  Recertification period is 3 years with 1.5 years work experience New Institute Programs Focus: MR0175

8  New Certification, Q1 2015  Understanding of corrosion principles specific to the refining industry and processes  4-hour open book exam  Recertification period is 3 year with 1.5 years work experience  4 different paths for pre-requisites:  All require varying years of work experience, education levels.  All require the application and exam. 10 Global Certification Trends WASTRENDIMPLICATIO NS FOR NII MICRO CERTIFICATIO N Certification is focused on a trade, and usually unrelated to collegiate work (ex: CIP, CP 1 &2) Focus on filling gap between collegiate preparation and skills required for first job Specialty cert programs for engineering levels (ex: Refining) COMPUTER BASED TESTING CBT utilized for training – but not for exams due to security issues Utilize CBT at Regional Testing Centers Will change the current volunteer proctor model VALUE PROPOSITIO N Focused on what the certification offers the individual Focus on what the certification does for the workforce/employer Will pivot certification decision-making toward employers and industry data

12  78% of all NII certifications are in the coatings industry  61% of NII coating certifications are held by persons outside the USA, vs. 30% of generalist certifications and 35% of pipeline certifications  Nearly 30% of NII coating certifications, including CIP, are held by persons in China/Pacific Rim/Asia (compare to USA at 39% of global total) NACE Institute Trends

14 Certification: Growth Challenges  7,859 Certifications processed in FY2014  Increase already seen this FY (8%)  6,336 in FY 2013  3,558 in FY 2012  54% increase since FY 2012  Total number of active certifications has increased 43%

15  Initiating NDA for all examination holders  Developed public awareness plan relative to cheating:  Active in social media: challenge postings advocating cheating  Will publicize incidents of cheating  Will eliminate examination offerings to rewrite test if necessary  Considering revisions to pre-requisites  Publishing role descriptions for each CIP level  Added two full-time staff positions to handle volume increase and improve cycle times (tracking metrics)  Added two contract staff to verify 100% of all applications submitted (where experience & education are certification prerequisites) Certification: Recent/Probable Actions

16  All NACE Institute Certifications are required to be renewed every 3 years.  Renewal application process online at naceinstitute.org (since 2011)  It’s an easy 3 step process: 1.Certificate holder fills out application online, with work history. 2.NACE staff reviews the application to ensure all requirements have been met and verifies work experience with employer(s). 3.NACE staff provides new wallet card to certificate holder.
