2  Packages Limited was established in 1957 as a joint venture between the Ali Group of Pakistan and Akerlund & Rausing of Sweden, to convert paper & board into packaging for consumer industry.  Packages main achievement is its amazing paper mill, which was established in 1968. Since 1982, Packages has a joint venture with Tetra Pak International in Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited to manufacture paper for liquid food packaging and to sell Tetra Pak packaging equipment

3  In July 1994, Coates Lorilleux Pakistan Limited, in which Packages has 55% shares started production and sale of printing inks. Again a Joint Venture agreement was signed with Printcare(Ceylon)Ltd. in 1996.  Packages main achievement for 1999-2000 is that it has successfully completed its expansion of the flexible packaging line by installation of new rotogravure printing machine and the expansion of carton line by a new LEMANIC rotogravure printing and cutting creasing machine. The machines are in production since 1999.

8 Packages limited started producing consumer products with the introduction of Rose Petal (Facial Tissues) in April 1981, formally Rose Petal started production in 1986. With the passage of time consumer products family increased. A brief history of all the consumer products is given below;

9 Luxury pack of Rose Petal (Facial Tissues) in 1981. Tissues of pink color were introduced in 1982. Toilet rolls in 1983. Economy size pack pf Rose Petal (Facial tissues) was introduced in 1984. Multicolor tissues were also introduced in 1984. Production of table napkins started in 1985. In the end if 1985, the distribution is handed over to Tetra Pak. In February 1986, Packages Limited took the distribution back. Multi purpose rolls were introduced in October 1986. In November 1986, facial tissues were offered in pocket pack. The production plates and cups were started in 1987. Perfumed tissues were launched in 1987. In 1988, Feminex was launched. In 1989, wet tissues were introduced. In 1990, Feminex stickon was manufactured. In 1992, they manufactured a special kind of wet tissue, which is used to clean the glasses of spectacle

10 The facial tissues of Rose Petal are in the middle of growth stage and industry is at the upper level of growth stage. So, the Rose Petal has some chances to capture the more market share and increase its product life cycle. A survey conducted for Rose Petal with people of different income level. Its results are shown in coming slides. It is found that Rose Petal has penetration in all income groups of our society. Middle-income people largely use it with a slight difference in its usage by lower income group. The share of usage by higher income group is least as compare to other two income groups.

Flying and Fay are its competitors but they are not giving it a hard time as their market share is too small almost insignificant. Middle-income and higher-income groups are using Fay Tissues while Flying has main usage in lower-income groups.

15 CPD has its separate sections. They function for CPD products. These departments are:  CPD production  CPD planning  CPD dispatch  CPD quality control

16 CPD is following cost plus pricing strategy. Prices are quite reasonable and they are set after careful analysis of the product and the market for that product.

17 As it is very true that prices of Products vary with every new day. CPD customers should be aware of this fact. CPD customers are its distributors. There are 171 distributors of CPD. There are different zones and different distributors are from different zones These zones are: Sukkar zone Islamabad zone (north zone) Karachi zone (south zone) Faisalabad zone Multan zone Lahore zone (central zone)

18 In order to promote its products CPD uses a number of promotional strategies. The various promotional methods used are:  Electronic media through which maximum share of the market has been achieved.  Print media, which is also used extensively.  POS i.e. point of sale advertising means that the brand is also promoted through buntings etc. at the retail shops.

19 Although there is no doubt in the fact that as far as packaging is Concerned Packages is the market leader. But still there are certain brands having competing attitude towards Rose Petal products specially tissue papers. These competing brands are Fay, Flying and Moveta. Market share of CPD products is 80%, which clearly depicts that these brands suffer a lot because of Rose Petal and its supporting brand Tulip.
