3 The Card Catalog?? We all remember the card catalog. Well, believe it or not, we still use it except that is a computer catalog instead of a card catalog.

5 The name of our catalog is Destiny. We also have links to many other resources on our Destiny homepage. These links are under the “home” tab. The “catalog” tab is to search for books.

9 Trueflix Ages: 3rd grade and up These are all nonfiction electronic books covering topics in science and social studies. Each book has a short video to help introduce the subject. Audio is also included on this set of ebooks.

23 Ebsco eBooks If you don’t specify eBooks you get results for actual books and ebooks. The red book icon is an actual book. The blue square with the letter “e” inside is an eBook. Click “open” to read it.

24 Ebsco eBooks Suggested Search Terms--Beginning Readers Blastoff Readers nonfiction titles covering topics such as animals, nature, transportation There are over 200 books available in this series!

25 Ebsco eBooks Blastoff Readers have an image of a rocket at the bottom of the book cover. Look at the number inside the rocket to determine if the book is a good fit for your student. The numbers range from 1-4. The following slide will show the text on a level 1.

29 Ebsco eBooks series: Unsolved Mysteries Another great series is called Unsolved Mysteries These are between 6.5-7.0 in AR book level.

30 Ebsco eBooks series: Katie Woo This series is great for 1st and 2nd grade girls. The reading level ranges from 1.7- 2.9 on the AR Scale. There are 20 books in this series. This search needs to be from the Ebsco eBooks homepage instead of Destiny. Just type in “Katie Woo” into the search box.

31 Ebsco eBooks series: Sports Illustrated Kids The Sports Illustrated Kids Series provides graphic novels (comic books) ranging in topics such as football, hockey, paintball, cheerleading, and basketball. AR ranges are in the 2s and 3s for these books. This search needs to be from the Ebsco eBooks homepage instead of Destiny. Just type in “Sports illustrated kids.” There are 27 books available.

32 Ebsco eBooks If your child likes Diary of a Wimpy Kid, try typing in this author’s name in the Ebsco ebooks search box: Karla Oceanak. When typing Karla Oceanak into the search box, five books will appear. These are about a lovable character named Aldo who keeps a journal. They are chapter books perfect for 3rd-5th grade (and maybe some 2nd graders) Here is the first book in the series. It is worth 2 AR points and on a level of 3.8. These are available to download and read offline.

33 Ebsco eBooks It is possible to see a list of all Ebsco eBooks. Here are the steps. 1.Go to Destiny. 2.Click on catalog. 3.Click on “resource lists” (it’s on the left) 4.Click on “public lists” (it’s on the right) 5.Click on “Ebsco eBooks” in the middle Here are some other series names you can type into Ebsco eBooks: Dog Heroes Smart Animals! 34 Ebsco eBooks offline First you must set up an account in Ebsco eBooks.

36 Then follow these steps 1. Go to App store and download Bluefire Reader 2. Authorize bluefire reader with Adobe login (if you don’t have one, you will have to create one) 3. Go to bulldoglibrary.com, click on “Search for Books” and then click on Ebsco eBooks 4. Login with username: shreve and password: bulldogs 5. Search Ebooks with limiter of full text and download available checked 6. Choose ebook 7. Choose download offline 8. Login to Ebsco with your username and login created 9. Checkout and download 10. Go to Checkouts folder or Ebook link shows on device 11. Open in bluefire reader 12. Click on book to Read

39 Storia Our Storia account is set up using the Guided Reading levels for grades preK-1st and Lexile for grades 2-5. See the conversion chart. Remember that your child’s STAR scores recommend what to read on the ATOS scale. 3 different ways to measure reading level is confusing!
