2 Warm up Tuesday, 10/28/14 For everyone, you should have a rough draft of the conclusionfor your essay. Hand your conclusion to a classmate. Check to see if your classmate has done each of these things well. Write on your paper how the writer accomplished each item. Then meet with your classmate and go over these points. 1. Revisit the topic (in this case, something about the novel, so be sure to include the title and author) 2. Retain credibility 3. Restate claim clearly in revised wording 4. Review the sections of the paper (the three or four supports and the counter claim and rebuttal) 5. Provide a sense of completion for the reader

Consider TKAM Ch. 11 Think about the events of Ch Jem and Scout were provoked by Mrs. Dubose, and Jem took revenge. When his father learned what happened, he insisted that Jem talk to her and make amends somehow. Explain what Atticus did, what he said afterwards, and why. Is he a good parent? Why is he impressed with Mrs. Dubose? Explain. If you have time, explore if there anything about Mrs. Dubose that might be foreshadowing about Atticus and his defense of Tom Robinson.

Maybe you were more impressed with them than you used to be once you knew about this skill or bit of history. Write about this, but let’s keep it all school-appropriate, please. Then write to compare your experience to Jem and Scout watching their father shoot a mad dog with calm skill and deadly accuracy. How did that change how they thought about their father? Explain.

Apparently, at the Maycomb school, students can go home for lunch, which they call “dinner.” Explain why Jem invited Walter to eat with them after he broke up the fight between Walter and Scout. Connect that invitation to why Cal brought Scout into the kitchen to correct her behavior towards Walter. Are Cal and Jem trying to correct the same things in Scout that Miss Caroline tries to correct? Explain.
