2 England’s reason for control England desired to be a world power. In the American colonies, Great Britain's desire to remain a world power resulted in conflict with the French known as the French and Indian war England imposed taxes, such as the Stamp Act, to raise necessary funds to pay the cost of the French and Indian War.

4 Sources of colonial dissatisfaction Colonies had no representation in Parliament. Some colonists resented power of colonial governors. England wanted strict control over colonial legislatures. Colonies opposed taxes. The Proclamation of 1763 which followed the French and Indian War, stopped the western movement of settlers
