1 DO NOT FORGET TO GRAB YOUR CLICKER and CLICK IN! (A)
DO NOW: DO NOT FORGET TO GRAB YOUR CLICKER and CLICK IN! (A) A car starts at rest and accelerates 3m/s2 for 4 seconds. How far did it travel in these 4 seconds?

2 After today WE will be able to:
Calculate acceleration, velocity, time or displacement for an object in FREE FALL through application of kinematics equations.

3 Challenge Problem! An apple falls from a tree and hits the ground after 2 seconds. How tall was the tree? ????? 0 m/s NOPE AHH I DON’T HAVE IT!! 2 seconds

4 FREE FALLIN’ FREE FALL is any motion of a body where GRAVITY is the only force acting upon it. The acceleration due to gravity of an object is -9.8 m/s2.

5 Challenge Problem! An apple falls from a tree and hits the ground after 2 seconds. How tall was the tree? ????? 0 m/s NOPE AHH I DON’T HAVE IT!! 2 seconds

6 Challenge Problem! An apple falls from a tree and hits the ground after 2 seconds. How tall was the tree? ????? X=(0)(2) + ½ (-9.8)(22) 0 m/s NOPE X=+ ½ (-9.8)(22) -9.8m/s2 X=19.6 meters 2 seconds

7 What is the velocity of an object in freefall after 3 seconds?
EXAMPLE 1: What is the velocity of an object in freefall after 3 seconds? X Vf=0 + (-9.8)(3) 0 m/s ??? Vf=-29.4 m/s -9.8m/s2 3 seconds

8 EXAMPLE 2: A ball was thrown straight up with a velocity of 10m/s. How long will it take for the ball to reach maximum height? X 0=10 + (-9.8)(t) 10 m/s 0 m/s -10=-9.8t -9.8m/s2 t= 1.02 seconds ???

9 EXAMPLE 3: A ball was thrown straight up with a velocity of 10m/s. What is the maximum height the ball will reach? ??? X= ½ (10+0)1.02 10 m/s 0 m/s X=5.1 meters -9.8m/s2 1.02 seconds

10 Start working through your classwork
Start working through your classwork!!! Leave your sheets out for me to sign!

11 DOL #1 What is the time required for an object starting from rest to fall freely 500. meters near Earth’s surface? 51.0 s 10.1 s 25.5 s 7.14 s

12 DOL #2 A clam dropped by a sea gull takes 3 seconds to hit the ground. What is the sea gull’s approximate height above the ground at the time the clam was dropped? 90 meters 45 meters 30 meters 15 meters

13 DOL #3 An object is allowed to fall freely near the surface of a planet. The object falls 54 meters in the first 3.0 seconds after it is released. The acceleration due to gravity on the planet is… 108 m/s2 27m/s2 12 m/s2 6.0 m/s2
