9 Success of the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership since April 2013 1.Working Together as a collaborative of schools (nursery school linking to primary schools) and other Teaching Schools in Liverpool as well as the Local Authority. 2.Making an impact on the school led system, influence through sharing practice. 3.Appointing early years and family support SLEs. Deploying and making an impact. 4.Engaging in research through the school led system with links to HEI re Test and Learn – Numicon, 1 st Class at Number, Growth Mindsets, Inference. 5.Applying for research bids re National Curriculum, Spelling, What makes great pedagogy? 6.Leading on the National Early Years Hub project. Establishing a network and making an impact on disadvantaged areas with links to pvi’s. 7.School Direct trainees being appointed to schools.

10 Challenges for the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership since April 2013 1.School Direct provider for tuition route – difficulties with HEI on recognising the potential of partnership links. Concern by HEI with regards to impact on jobs and future role HEIs play in ITT. 2.Partnership Agreement with HEI re trainees who suspend studies. 3.Marketing of School Direct – more so for Tuition than Salaried route. 4.Recruitment of School Direct Trainees – more so for Tuition than Salaried route. 5.Some primary/nursery schools distance themselves from the Teaching School agenda. 6.Local Authority are supportive but also a company with income targets from September 2014, so at times in competition re CPD courses, school-to-school support.

11 Opportunities for the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership 1.To link with the early years and primary sector and explore system leadership in schools, children’s centres and the private and voluntary sector. Explore links with health and social care to link with schools through an early intervention model and focus on School Readiness. 2.To work collaboratively with a range of HEI providers to explore research. 3.To work both locally and nationally with a range of Teaching Schools and explore different partnership models.

12 10 Strategic tips from the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership 1.Build and review capacity in own organisation. Build in administration support for the Teaching School and School Direct. 2.Push for fairer funding with HEI or develop links with/or become a SCITT. We had £3,000 in 2013, £4,000 in 2014, moving to £5,500 with SCITT in 2015. 3.Build professional leads with schools as you can’t lead on everything yourself as the lead school. 4.Keep governors of all schools informed, create a governors collaborative group to monitor income/expenditure and any impact on schools involved. 5.Ensure Teaching School Co-ordinator has finance/project management skills to bid for finances and support business model of sustainability. 6.Think about building IT support re website, Twitter, blog. 7.Consider leadership at all levels – coaching/mentoring, succession management and talent management. 8.Build links with the Local Authority and network with other local/national Teaching Schools, as they can act as a mechanism of support. 9.Encourage own staff to develop as SLEs to expand school to school support. 10.Enjoy the experience of being part of leading the developments within a school led system!
