SUPPORTING ROTARY’S STRATEGIC PLAN

INTENTIONAL VS. ACCIDENTAL STRATEGIES

An Intentional Strategy…. A specific course of action likely to achieve the desired result Examples??

THE PRESIDENT’S ROLE – The Club Visionary What will the club look like in 10 years? 5 years? 3 years? At the end of my term as President? For what will my year as President be remembered? How can I leave the campground in better shape than I found it?

SO, WHAT MOTIVATES PEOPLE?

KEYS TO MEMBER RETENTION & ATTRACTION – Autonomy People want to be part of something that’s self-governing – Purpose People want to be part of something meaningful – an organization that’s making a difference – Mastery People want to be part of something that’s as good as any and better than most at what it does

QUESTIONS… – Autonomy?? – Purpose?? Does your club actually DO enough to keep its members engaged in its Purpose? Is its Purpose clearly part of the President’s vision? – Mastery?? Is your club actually working at mastering its game? Does your club have an idea of what mastery looks like?

MASTERY – A truly effective Rotary club is one that: 1.Sustains or increases its membership base 2.Implements successful projects that address the needs of its community and communities in other countries 3.Supports the Rotary Foundation through both program participation and financial contributions 4.Develops future club leaders capable of serving in Rotary beyond the club Mike Thacker PDG D-7710
