2. Downloading TortoiseSVN Go to http://tortoisesvn.net/http://tortoisesvn.net/ On the left-hand side of the page is a link reading “Download”. Click it. There are 4 file links on the page. Click on the link for the Installer Package (.msi) for your system type (most Windows systems are 32- bit). This will pop up a page at sourceforge.net. Your download should begin automatically.

3. Installing TortoiseSVN Run the installer package and follow the prompts. I would recommend letting TortoiseSVN install to the default location. It is worth noting that updates are downloaded and installed exactly the same way. Updating is seamless: just install the updated package over top of the existing package and you won't need to update settings.

4. Using TortoiseSVN Create or find a folder where you want the repository. Right-click in the folder, and select SVN Checkout (as on next slide). This will pop up a dialog box (2 slides away). Fill out the top line of the dialog box as shown, and the second line of the dialog box is the path to the folder for the repository (I'll demo this).

7. Using TortoiseSVN This will create a copy(called a “Sandbox”) of the repository on your machine. To update your sandbox to match the repository, right-click on the top-level folder (“Sandbox” on my machine) and select “SVN Update”. To update the repository to match your sandbox, right-click on the top-level folder and select “SVN Commit”.

8. Using TortoiseSVN To add a file (.doc,.ppt, etc.) to the repository, just drag-and-drop into your sandbox and hit “Commit”. If you create a folder within the sandbox, it will create a new folder in the repository.
