Introduction to the General Content and Terminology of MY MHCC

Masthead This identifies the official Portal with logo and the name of the college

Login Information You use your CARS login information to get into MY MHCC to see more and get things done. morrisp ******

Main Page Once logged in, this area allows accessibility to other areas in MY MHCC by way of portlets or the sidebar.

Tabs These are designed for quick navigation to main areas of information on MY MHCC.

Context Area This is the controllable area that holds the portlets. They are mini-applications inside MY MHCC portal.

Portlets Mini applications: calendar, announcements, forums, groups, custom, etc. What’s a portlet, you ask? Each one of these areas is a special application. You can erase the ones you want and add others. That training will come in another session. For example, this calendar. Each course will have its own. And your students will automatically be able to see it.

Sidebar Now the sidebar will navigate you to the same places as clicking on the individual portlets. Quickly!

Breadcrumbs This long list is called Breadcrumbs. It gives you a path of where you are and how you got here. RED UNDERLINED Clicking on a RED UNDERLINED item will quickly move you to that place in MY MHCC.

Context Manager If you see this (Context Manager) on a page, then you have administrative privileges for all the content on that page.

Page Administration Customize this page By clicking on Customize this page you can modify page properties, content, layout and security.

The Wrench Icon This little guy right here is called the Wrench. It allows you to set up personal preferences, settings, or security for each portlet.

HELP!!! And, of course, there is the HELP button (?). It is context sensitive to the portlet it is in.
