Spectrometer Solenoid Testing Update S. Virostek and M. Zisman Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory MICO Meeting—RAL June 7, 2010

Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ2 Status (1) Magnet 2 disassembly is continuing —being worked on full time by tech Tower has been completely removed —along with items protruding above vacuum vessel envelope —fill and vent lines ground off

June 7, 2010Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ3 Status (2) Warm bore welds ground away and warm bore removed

June 7, 2010Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ4 Status (3) Welds on vacuum vessel at AFC end have been cut and plate removed —weld on the other side was being ground away at the end of last week

June 7, 2010Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ5 Status (4) Vendor expects cold mass to be removed by the end of this week There will be discussions on who pays for what New cryogenic engineer (Igor Sekachev) will be delayed until early-to-mid July —will try to get him out for a few days in the next few weeks

June 7, 2010Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ6 Plans Disassembly will proceed to determine location and cause of failed lead After cold mass is removed, it will be leak checked Thereafter, cold mass will be (carefully!) cut open in area of lead feed-throughs towards quench protection system —care will be taken to preserve condition of leads for inspection Some (internal) discussion about moving magnet to LBNL for reassembly —no decision on this yet o there would be big implications if this choice were made
