2 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  Stress!  Sleep –Reduce caffeine intake Do not use Pro Plus type products –Try to establish a sleeping pattern some days in advance

3 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  Get up early –We work more effectively in the morning –It makes it easier to sleep  Take frequent breaks –Concentration drops off after 45 minutes Less when stressed  Take some exercise –Fresh air helps a lot

4 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  Nutrition –Take breaks for meals –Eat regularly –Reduce caffeine –Avoid “sugar hit” Sugary food gives a boost, but this is followed by a crash –Craving then affects concentration

5 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  The day before an exam –Get up early –Work in the morning –Go for a 10-15 minute walk –Work in the afternoon –Go for a walk –Find something relaxing to do –Go to bed early

6 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  The morning of the exam –Do not skip breakfast! Fresh fruit Oats/Cereal, but watch out for sugar! Juice/smoothie Eat a banana 10-15 minutes before an exam –Very slow release of energy If you don’t like bananas, try a flapjack, but not a very sweet one

7 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  Exam –Your exam has five questions on it, of which you must do four –Every question is worth 25 marks You have a free choice of which ones to tackle  Read the paper! –It is very important that you understand what you are being asked!

8 Games at Bolton Exam Technique “Every question is worth 25 marks” –Your chance of scoring 25 on any question is vanishingly small –As you get closer to 100% of the marks for something, it gets harder and harder to get more marks –All marks are not created equal!

9 Games at Bolton Exam Technique  It’s relatively easy to get the first 60% (15 marks) for a given question –The correct way to do an exam is to get your 60% on each of four questions, then go back for the rest –Leave plenty of space at the end of each part of your answers to help you to do this
