3 3 Population Census History of Mongolia During the 20 th century Mongolia has conducted nine population censuses in 1918, 1935, 1944, 1956, 1963, 1969, 1979, 1989 and 2000 1969, 1979 and 1989 censuses were developed in accordance with methodologies recommended by Commission of Economic Mutual Assistance for socialist countries. Main features of these censuses: Population censuses and housing censuses were conducted together UN recommendation on periodicity

4 2000 Population and Housing census 2000 census was the first census after adapting to a market economy 2000 census was conducted in accordance with UN Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses First time, rich information on migration were collected First time, census materials were processed using personal computers and international standard software.

5 2000 Population and Housing census First time, the post-enumeration survey was conducted Broad-based census advocacy and publicity were conducted compared with the previous censuses Output tables extracted from the census were consistent with international standards
