2 The main idea of the unit  People buy products according to their colours, size, hardness,softness, smell and price. Products are either regular or organic. Organic produce is grown without chemicals. Regular produce is grown with chemicals.  Some people prefer regular produce because it has better colours and size and it has convenient prices. Others, prefer organic produce because they believe that it is healthier for eating.

6 More writing skills Tips on tone :  A letter to a close friend may have a lot of slang and may sound very casual.  When you write to a friend, you can express negative emotions like anger.  When you write to your teacher or your boss, you should avoid expressing these negative emotions directly.

7 Grammar Count and Non-Count Nouns  Count nouns: are nouns that can be counted. They have singular and plural shapes. ( a car ……cars / an orange……..oranges) ( a car ……cars / an orange……..oranges) Before a singular noun we use a / an When we change count nouns into plural we add “s or es”. a brush …………..brushes a brush …………..brushes

8 More about Count and Non-Count nouns Non-Count nouns don’t have plural forms. We don’t use “a or an” before them. We use singular verbs after them. Money ………….money Produce ……………produce News ……………….news Money is necessary in our daily life. My furniture needs some wax. No news is good news.

9 Using some / any / a lot of with count and non-count nouns  We use “some” before count nouns in the plural forms. I have some books in my bookcase. I have some books in my bookcase. They bought some clothes last week. They bought some clothes last week.  We use “some” in affirmative sentences.  We use “some” before non-count nouns in affirmative sentences. I have some money in my purse. I have some money in my purse. She has some work to do today. She has some work to do today.

10 More about count and non-count nouns  We use “any” count nouns in the plural forms. We use “any” in negative sentences and questions. You don’t have any pens to give me. You don’t have any pens to give me. Do you have any books with you? Do you have any books with you?  We use “any” before non-count nouns in negative sentences and questions.
