Archeology and Society Archeology and literature provide only concrete link to past. Restricted in uncovering past Solution Unique geographical position Actively collecting data Still much to be done Wasted opportunity
3
Mission Statement The objective of this project is to help Insula develop a methodology for collection and electronic organization of archeological data encountered during their maintenance operations in the Venetian canals. Archeology Background The processing of archeological reports. Stucture data should have before it is computerized Type of data included in reports Current methodologies used by Insula archeologists in cataloging sites Standards for archeological symbols and visual codes Stratigraphical mapping
6
Visual Tools for Archeology Noninvasive subsurface mapping prior to excavation GPR used in conjunction with software Preservation Analysis of artifacts too fragile or difficult to exhume. Reduction in cost (time) Site strategies Actuate artifact location Example Site Plan
