STEER 2003 By: Jennie S. Malonek CSULA STEER Digital Signal Processing Dr. J. Beyon Summer 2003 An NSF RET Program Co-PIs Dr Boussalis, Dr. Dong, Dr. Liu and Dr. Rad

STEER 2003  Introduction  The Project  My Hypothesis  Procedure  Simulation  Conclusion

STEER 2003 Introduction 1.CD players and sound cards 2.Tutorials 3.Direct instruction 4.Construction of individual VI (virtual instruments).

STEER 2003 The Project  Expectations before the program  The Program

STEER 2003 My initial hypothesis Isolating a frequency range of the sound spectrum can alter the sound experienced. In music, multiple instrument frequencies are juxtaposed and difficult to discriminate to the untrained ear. Specialized equalizers can be developed to isolate and present desired frequencies and sounds sampled from a CD. Equalizers will be developed by the participant to isolate single instruments, combine different groups of instruments and modify signal output.

STEER 2003 Concepts that students had to master.   Controls, Constants, Inputs   Digital Filters (BPF, BSF, LPF, HPF)   Loops   Signal representation in time and frequency domain   FFT for frequency domain representation   Convolution of signals   Output forms   Frequency coverage with a bank of digital filters

STEER 2003 Procedures mastered using LabVIEW 7.0  Controls, Indicators and Constants  Loops  Arrays  Filters  Output forms

STEER 2003 Acknowledgements  Dr. Beyon (king of waves and the DSP lab, aka the mad clicker)  Kyla Ollie (my partner in crime)  Catherine Alpas ( our student par excellence)  The other STEER PIs (Drs. Boussalis, Rad, Liu and Dong. Who gets the prize for sending the latest e-mail?)  The STEER students (Shenel, Amir, Alex, et. al… Thank you for sharing your love lives with us)  The other STEER participants (especially the chicken salad group)
