Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n The Hebrew Christians were once motivated to face persecution with joy. (Heb 10:32-34)

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Hebrews 10:32-34 (NKJV) - But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: 33 partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated;

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n 34 for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n When our possessions are in heaven then we do not fear what may happen to our earthly possessions.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n There is a fellowship with others who also have this motivation. (Rev 1:9)

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Revelation 1:9 (NKJV) - I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n #86G – Be Strong and Courageous– Verses 1,2

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n This motivation must be maintained! (Heb 10:35-39)

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Hebrews 10:35-39 (NKJV) 35Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 37“For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n 38Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n We posses a remarkable tendency to forget things that once moved us.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n We posses a remarkable tendency to forget things that once moved us. n Israel forgot the mighty signs in the wilderness. (Psa 106:7, 11-13, 20-21)

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Psalm 106:7 (NKJV) - Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Psalm 106:11-13 (NKJV) - The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left. 12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. 13They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Psalm 106:20-21 (NKJV) - Thus they changed their glory Into the image of an ox that eats grass. 21 They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt,

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n We can forget the joy of forgiveness and what it means! (2 Pt 1:9)

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n 2 Peter 1:9 (NKJV) - For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n #168B – Beneath the Cross of Jesus – Verses 1,2,3

Without proper motivation the Christian will fail. n Are you zealously looking for the return of Christ? Where is your motivation?

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Do you remember when you were baptized? What motivated you?

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Do you remember when you were baptized? What motivated you? n It may have been because you learned of denominational error. (Acts 19:3-5)

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Acts 19:3-5 (NKJV) - And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n It may have been because you realized the brevity of life.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n It may have been because you realized the brevity of life. n It may have been out of a fear of hell.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n It may have been because you realized the brevity of life. n It may have been out of a fear of hell. n It may have been because you wanted to be right with God. (Acts 2:37)

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Acts 2:37 (NKJV) - Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n There are many things that are motivating but some things become more important as we mature.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n There are many things that are motivating but some things become more important as we mature. n While there is a place for fear there is a greater need for love. (1 Jn 4:17-19)

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n 1 John 4:17-19 (NKJV) - Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n #182G – The Lord is My Light – Verses 1,2

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n While we mature we must not become proud and cast away our obedience!

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n While we mature we must not become proud and cast away our obedience! n Some of those who talk about love the most can be some of the most hateful and underhanded people I know. (1 Jn 4:20-21)

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n 1 John 4:20-21 (NKJV) - If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Others have a Gnostic like attitude that claim their superior “spirituality” places them above discussions about outward obedience. (1 Jn 2:3-6)

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n 1 John 2:3-6 (NKJV) - Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

As we mature in Christ so will our cause for motivation n Have you seen a progression in your motivation? (Ex. How having a family matures you…coming home from a trip.)

What does heaven mean to you? n Heaven is pictured as a beautiful place. (Rev 21:17-21)

May we have God's wisdom to see the opportunities placed before us. n 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, … 21The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
