In Japanese a Tsunami is called a harbor wave. A Tsunami is a series of large waves.

Each ocean has a plate. Usually they move 2.5 inches a year. Sometimes the plate slips and it sends out shocks causing a earthquake. When the shocks go out it causes a big tidal wave.

At 7:58am on Dec. 26 2004 there was a powerful earthquake under water in the Indian Ocean the Indian plate usually moves north at about 2.5 miles per year Then on Dec.26 the plate moved about 50ft. at once The Indian plate went down and the Burma plate went up Doctors and nurses treated thousands They helped to prevent the spread of disease that could quickly spread around
