1 1 Hellenic Mathematical Society Founded in 1918 President of H.M.S Professor Nikolaos Alexandris

2 2 History In March, 1918 a group of mathematicians decided upon the formation of a mathematical society, in order to: Bring Greek Mathematicians closer together Contribute to the progress of the mathematical environment To further the moral and virtual support of all Greek Mathematicians President:Ν. Hatzidakis G. Secretary:Ν. Sakellariou

3 3 Change of Statutes in 1975 The Hellenic Mathematical Society’s objective is to promote and enhance various topics and applications concerning the science of Mathematics, as well as to offer support and solidarity towards the Greek graduates of Mathematics, which are members of the society, using every legitimate mean in order to protect them and their work. Within this context and within the scope of the Greek Constitution and the laws, the Hellenic Mathematical Society’s main concern is to play an active part in the progression of Greek education, and more specifically, the evolvement of Mathematical education, as well as to ensure the conditions which render the Greek educational system at the service of the people, conditions such as National Integrity, National Independence and Democracy.

4 4 Change of Statutes in 1975 This objective is accomplished with the following: the production of magazines and other publications and the exchange of publications between the Mathematical Society and other Scientific Societies, Unions and Foundations of this country and beyond, which have the same or somewhat similar objectives, the production of magazines and other publications and the exchange of publications between the Mathematical Society and other Scientific Societies, Unions and Foundations of this country and beyond, which have the same or somewhat similar objectives, the organization and operation of a library, the organization and operation of a library, the organization of lectures and talks, seminars, conferences, the establishment of institutes and other similar scientific activities, the organization of lectures and talks, seminars, conferences, the establishment of institutes and other similar scientific activities, every other mean which is worthy of the prestige and the history of the Hellenic Mathematical Society. every other mean which is worthy of the prestige and the history of the Hellenic Mathematical Society. In the new statutes, important changes have been made in the Administrative system, which allow the establishment of branches all over the country. (Currently 34 branches in Greece)
