Who Are Successful Losers? The National Weight Control Registry has compiled data from thousands of successful “big losers” who have lost more than 30 pounds and kept it off for more than 5 years. They found: –55% had help from professionals like at the Henry Ford Health System –Many created short- and long-term goals that fit their lifestyle –Almost all were extremely physically active (90% exercised on a regular basis) www.henryford.com/weightloss
14
Are you ready to lose weight? I have thought a lot about my eating habits and physical activities and I know what I might change. I know that I need to make permanent, not temporary changes in my eating and activity habits. I’m thinking about losing weight now because I really want to, not because someone else thinks I should. I am willing to increase my regular physical activity. I am willing to commit time and effort each week to organize and plan my food and activity choices. The more you answered “yes” the more likely you’ll be successful at weight loss. www.henryford.com/weightloss
15
Choosing the right program for you How much weight do I want to lose? What have I tried before? What was successful? What wasn’t successful? Are there medical or behavioral issues that need to be addressed either before or during participation in a weight management program? What type of setting am I most comfortable? Do I learn best in a group or one-on-one? What restrictions do I have on my time? www.henryford.com/weightloss
