3 A conjunction is a joiner, a word that connects (conjoins) parts of a sentence. The coordinating conjunctions are as follows:. It may help you remember these conjunctions by recalling that they all in 2 or 3 letters. Also, remember the acronym  FANBOYS: For-And-Nor-But-Or-Yet-So. 5 nor: common using as the little brother in the correlative pair, neither-nor  He is neither sane nor brilliant.  That is neither what I said nor what I meant. but: connecting two sentences or elements with contrasting or opposite ideas  She likes classical music, but she doesn't like rock.  She also likes country music, but he hates it.  He is not a poet but a novelist.
