The 1 st Five-Year National Plan for Science & Technology King Abdul Aziz City for Science & Technology (KACST) and major stakeholders developed a strategic plans for technologies identified by the national science, technology and innovation plan. The technologies are:  Water  Oil & Gas  Petrochemicals  Nanotechnologies  Biotechnology  Information Technology  Electronics, communications, photonics  Space and Aeronautics Technology  Energy  Advanced materials  Environment

Other KACST Research Programs 1. National Grants Program: to address significant and priority issues facing the national public and other sectors. The program seeks appropriate solutions for these issues that require the involvement of various bodies in financing and execution. 2. Grants Program for Applied Scientific Research: in engineering, medical sciences, and agriculture 3. Grant Program for Developmental Research: to support research intended to develop product or update a machine or a tool in fields vital to the Kingdom. 4. Grant Program for Higher Education Students: to support the research activities of higher education students in various scientific fields, to enhance & develop national capacity in research areas, and to steer higher education towards national developmental objectives. 5. Mini Grant Program: This program supports research projects with goals set for a period of one year only. It allows researchers to select subjects and seek solutions for some of the difficulties facing the public sector. 6. Grant Program for Research in Humanities: focuses on research targeting social, economic & educational issues.

Faculty Development Opportunities  Development programs  Independent research.  Environment conducive to research  Funded projects  Research Institute  Dhahran Techno Valley

Financial Benefits  Competitive tax-free salary  Free furnished housing in the campus  Free utilities and maintenance  Free medical care  Annual round-trip air tickets  School tuition aid for children  Paid summer breaks  End of service benefits  Extra income from funded projects

Int’l Academic Salaries Comparison “The best prospects for raising a salary over a career from the entry-level average to the top-level average are in Saudi Arabia” International Comparison of Academic Salaries: An Exploratory Study, Boston College, October 2008

Int’l Academic Salaries Comparison The new study  covers only 15 countries;  generally includes only four-year institutions for comparative purposes;  includes countries in the developed and developing worlds, and from regions worldwide; and  is based on World Bank Purchasing Power Parity Dollars (WBPPP$), to reflect differences in the cost of living. WBPPP$ These are U.S. dollars for the United States average, but for other countries they are adjusted to reflect local purchasing power. So pure U.S. dollar averages would go up in countries where the cost of living was relatively low; that adjusted total would represent the World Bank dollar figure quoted in the study.
