2 Introduction Our presentation is about immigration and the environment policy in Europe. We asked several people questions about the subjects and worked their answer out in this PowerPoint presentation. We summarized their answers in percents. We only did this with the multiple-choice questions. The open questions are also summarized in one answer, but it contains all the opinions of the questioned people We questioned our parents, two teachers and two students. We wish you a lot of fun with our presentation! Michelle, Liselotte, Jasmijn and Deveney

3 We’ll start with the open questions
Immigration in Europe We’ll start with the open questions 1. Do you think it’s a good thing that there are so many people are moving to Europe? Almost everybody said that they didn’t see a problem with so many people moving to Europe. They said that it’s good to see that people with different cultures can live together. Only one student said that he thinks Europe is getting taken over by immigrants and they’re stealing all our jobs. “Europe is too full,” he said. 2. What do you think is the reason for immigration to Europe? Everybody answered they think the welfare in. The economy in Europe is better and the chance to succeed in de society is bigger. Besides, the paychecks in Europe are higher than where they’re from. Do you think it’s a good thing that there’ll become a mixed community because of all the immigrants? Half of the people we questioned said that they see the difference between the cultures as a beautiful thing. Everybody learns from each other. But the other half said that the difference between the cultures nine out of ten times lead to conflicts.

4 We’ll continue with the open questions
What do you think of the amount of immigrants? Almost everybody said that the amount of the immigrants is now acceptable, but if the immigrants keep coming with large numbers, they think that there wouldn’t be enough space to give al those immigrants a home. There was one person who said that there was already too much immigrants in Europe and the governments should send all the new immigrants back to their own country. How can the immigrants change their selves so they will fit in the EU? Everybody named these things: learn the language and respect the culture of the country they now live in. 6. Would you like to immigrate to another country or continent? Which country/continent would that be? Most of the questioned parents chose to stay in the country they now live in, except for two parents. They’d like to immigrate back to Surinam. Also the teachers wanted to stay here for a while, maybe later they’ll think about immigrate to another country. And the students want to study in another country, but they don’t know which country yet. But they prefer a warm country.

5 Multiple-choice questions part A

8 Environment policy in Europe
We’ll start with the open questions. What do you think of recycling? Everybody agreed that recycling is a good thing to do. It’s better for the environment. In the end, recycling is cheaper anyway, because factories don’t have to make new plastics and glass, they can use the recycled stuff. Which things can we do to get a better environment? These things came up: recycling, take the bike instead of the car or buy a hybrid car, use less electricity, use ‘green energy’ and separate your garbage. What do you think about the waste products people dump everywhere? The parents and the teachers said that they think it’s really wrong to dump those stuff everywhere. “We’re all ruining the Earth,” they say. We should think before we throw our stuff away. The students don’t care less. They say that they can’t help it anyway, so they don’t really worry about it. It isn’t their problem anyway.

9 Multiple-choice questions part B
Do you think the environment policy is good in the EU? 8 people said yes, 4 people said no. 66,7% = yes 33,3% = no What is more important to you, the environment or economy? 9 people said the economy and 3 people said the environment is more important. 75% = economy 25% = environment Are you thinking a lot about the environment? 10 people said yes and 2 people said no. 83,3% = yes 14,7% = no Do you think the economy in the EU is well organized? 6 people said yes and 6 people said no. 50% = yes 50% = no Do you understand all the index numbers in the economy? 8 people said yes, 4 people said no. 66,7% = yes 33,3% = no 9. 11 We will start with the open questions.
European Values We will start with the open questions. 1. What do we mean when we say ‘European values’? The people who did knew globally what European values are answered all something like : the ideals we want to aspire to. So Europe is one integral. Do you think the European values are important? There were some people who said that they were important because Europe is really becoming one integral, so every inhabitant should try to aspire to these values so people are going to feel like ‘real Europeans’. On the other hand, the other questioned people said that they think that the values aren’t that important, because everybody is individual. Everybody has other values, so what’s the use of the ‘European values’? 3. Do you agree when I say that the immigrants should adjust themselves to the European values? They all said ‘yes’, because everywhere you’ll go, you’ll have to adjust to different situations. So you have adjust yourself to the European values if you want to live here.

12 Continuance What is for you the best way to let the immigrants adjust themselves? These things came up: follow a integration class, make contact with the people around you, read the newspaper and just be social. 5. Do you think the EU should be increased or not? Everybody answered that with Turkey joining the EU, the EU is big enough. Because the countries that now are involved with the EU are countries with similar values and laws. It would be different for other countries to adjust themselves to the European standard just to join the EU.

13 Multiple-choice questions part C
6. Should the government make the adjustment to the European values committed? 10 people said yes and 2 people said no. 83,3% = yes 16,7% = no 7.
