 Climatic anomalies are directly or indirectly attributed to a human activity that alters the composition of the atmosphere. These anomalies add to the natural variability of the climate.

 The climatic system represents an assembly which includes the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the biosphere and the geosphere as well as their interactions.

All the regions of the planet can be influenced by the natural hazards produced by the climatic changes. In the last two or three decades there has appeared a visible change to the duration of the season. All the regions of the planet can be influenced by the natural hazards produced by the climatic changes. In the last two or three decades there has appeared a visible change to the duration of the season.

 Some of the most known climatic anomalies are: droughts, floods, fires, earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, global heating.

 In Romania, floods appear when there are large quantities of melted snow accompanied with abundant rain.  One of the most devastating effects of the high floods is that the soil gets saturated with water and it begins “to run” with it.

 In 2005, Romania was hit by six flood waves starting in April and May and continuing in September. Eight persons died during the last floods which affected the south-east of our country. Approximately 77 people died and thousands of houses were destroyed because of the floods. According to the government the damages amounted to Euro 1,5 billion.

 A drought represents a long period of dry weather when there is not enough water for plants and animals to live.  The consequences of the drought can lead to a diminished production of cereals and vegetables and also to a decrease of the water supply. Romania faced these problems during the summer of the year 2007 and the first consequence was a rapid increase of the prices.

Floods are a very large amount of water that covers an area that is usually dry. The most recent floods in Romania took place during the summer of 2006 and their results were devastating.

Fires are climatic anomalies generated by the global heating and there have been some fires in the Danube Delta lately.

 An earthquake is the shaking of the earth caused by the rapid movement of the earth’s rocky outer layer.  The destruction an earthquake causes depends on its magnitude and on its duration, on the amount of shaking that occurs  Earthquakes can deform the ground, make buildings and other structures collapse, and create tsunamis. There may be a lot of casualties in the process.

 A storm is a period of very bad weather when there is a lot of rain or snow and often strong winds. In Romania this natural hazard has affected 31 counties such as: Arges, Bacau, Vrancea, Galati, Braila.

Tornadoes happen when warm moist air meets a cold dry breeze. This extremely dangerous phenomenon has already appeared in Romania causing several deaths.Tornadoes happen when warm moist air meets a cold dry breeze. This extremely dangerous phenomenon has already appeared in Romania causing several deaths.

 Deforestations also have devastating effects on the climate, taking into account that forests have an important role in the absorption of carbon dioxide and they prevent the greenhouse effect.

 Animal species are continually disappearing. Every year, global heating turns nature into an immense desert.

 Nowadays, it is more and more obvious that, the greenhouse effect is not at all being controlled, taking into account the development of the current industry and transport.

Romania won’t make an exception from the predictable changes of the world wide climate and consequently all the local and national authorities will be compelled to know in detail the efficient actions in case of extreme phenomena like floods, tornadoes, landslides or drought. It was predicted that in 2008, the pluviometric regime will be 30- 70% below the multiannual average. Seriously or not, we can imagine that instead of the corn fields that are not resistant to high temperatures, countrymen of the year 2030 will grow plants.

There are a lot of climatic changes that we, the Romanians, are going to experience from now on, just as they are mentioned in the last report of the Intergovernmental Committee for climatic changes. Thus, there is a growing tendency of the extreme phenomena in all temperate regions around the world.

In our country, there is expected that the heat waves will be more frequent. On summer and on winter days there are higher temperatures than normal, springs come earlier, autumns later. The changes brought about by the rises in temperature will determine alterations of the new tillage types.
