Questions 20032006 Is office paper saved for recycling? NoYes – paper recycling point in office. Does the school host or use recycling facilities? NoYes – paper and can recycling bins. Is the school photocopier paper made from recycled paper? NoNo – not practical as recycled paper blocks photocopier. Does the school buy recycled file paper and exercise books? NoNo – but school does buy recycled envelopes. Are copy documents saved on computer files rather than paper? Yes – where possible Survey comparison sample

Recycling monitoring methods PAPER – we are currently collecting paper from classrooms every Wednesday after school. We are monitoring this by weighing the paper before it is taken to the recycling bin. CANS – We are emptying the can bin in the dinner hall every Wednesday after school. We are monitoring this by counting the cans as they are being placed in the recycling bin. They also have to be crushed before going into the recycling bin.

A survey took place in 2003 and another in 2006 Are the lights around the school energy efficient? In 2003, most lights were energy efficient. In 2006, nearly all lights around the school are energy efficient. Some are now motion sensor lights. In 2003, there were very few blinds or curtains situated in classrooms around the school, whereas in 2006, there are a lot more blinds in the windows.

We have collected data in the following ways: Obtaining copies of Gas, Electricity, and Oil bills from the last year. Filling in surveys around the school Graphs have been produced to show the energy being used in 2003 as well as 2006

Put signs by the door to remind people to turn the lights off on their way out of the room. Put signs on the computer monitors to remind people to turn off the computer and the monitor when not in use. Campaign for more motion sensors in classrooms and around the school. Monitor the use of electricity and gas around the school using bills and also conducting surveys to see how computer monitors are turned every week.

To collect our data, surveys were carried out in 2003 and 2006. A comparison between the two has then been carried out to evaluate ways of improving the conservation of water. The schools water bills have also been considered and are aimed at being reduced by 20% this time in 2007. It has been found that the majority of water wasted is through the toilets, and so that’s where saving water has been targeted.

During 2003 and 2006 a survey was carried out concerning the water management of the school. We found that : 2003 2006 timed operation taps the water pressure for the taps were installed. can be adjusted. the school water meter the school water meter isn’t read regularly. isn’t read regularly. ’hippos’ in the toilets ’hippos’ in the toilets have not have not been installed. been installed.

£ By looking at the bills between July and December, we found that the school spends on average £370 each month on water.

Creating and putting up posters around the school to make people aware of the benefits of saving water for the school -by the end of term. Have the taps and toilets checked for leaks more regularly. Introduce ‘hippos’ into the water cisterns of the toilets to reduce the volume of water used when the toilets are flushed. By introducing these ‘hippos’ we aim to reduce the schools water bills by 20%.

1.Is to cut the pollution made by the school. 2.Cut down 6 TH formers driving to school on their own. 3.Cut down parents dropping their own child of at school. 4.Try and encourage people to walk or bike to school.

I have actually done a survey to find out the actual data of students in this school to find out how many walk, bike, drive or take a school bus to school.

The graph shows that 65% of students take school bus to school which does make pollution but it stops 100 and 100s of cars coming to school to drop their kids to school. There is nearly the equal amount of people walking or using the car to come to school. which tells us we encourage the people coming to school on their car to use school bus and encourage more people to bike to school..

1.We need to stick posters around the school telling them about pollution made by fossil fuels. 2.Then we need to encourage people to walk or bike to school. 3.We also need to tell them fuels are going to run out some day so sooner you get used biking and walking the better. 4.And then at last we need interview the bus drivers about how much fuel at average does it take from a average area to school.

Similarities Differences We both recognise that the schools healthy eating bar is a success in influences the pupils to eat healthy during school. We both think that pupils should participate in growing fresh food and eating it during school. We both think the canteen should offer a wider range of fresh fruit at the salad bar. Since 2003 the schools anti-bullying scheme has greatly developed and is now a great success compared to 2003 results. Now there are more water drinking fountains placed at various points around the school compared to just the one in 2003. The 2003 group targeted water management in the toilets changing it for the better so now my group doesn’t have to focus on this.

To monitor how healthy the lifestyle of pupils during school actually is we constructed surveys for every year group in the school and took an average answer of each question for Each year. Our method is to define a positive response and concentrate on making pupils choose the healthy option. From our responses we can now interpret on average which year group is healthier and which needs to be most targeted to improve their healthy living in school.

Average Number of Positive responses

Healthy living in school Improve advertisement of fresh fruit at healthy eating bar e.g. more posters, variety. Encourage offers on fruit and water sales during break and dinner times e.g. cheaper prices, promotional deals. Improve links with peer support group, help make it more available. Encourage pupils to grow and eat fresh food during school, maybe during P.S.E lessons.

We have only started global citizenship in 2006. We were not focusing on this area in 2003. With the increase of the popularity and the expansion of the internet and communications in the world and people being able To surf the net and talk to people or visit a website in many countries Around the world. The world is now a smaller place. you can now get Anything or talk to anyone at the touch of a we should now start thinking About our surrounding area, country and even our surrounding Planet.

We have carried out a survey in which we asked two people From every form in the school questions. This survey can be Repeated every half term and then they will be put against each other To see if we are making progress.

There will be a copper pot in each form class in the school. Each year will chose a charity to donate the money to at the end of the year. We aim to become a fair trade school ASAP selling fair trade food.

Opening

We have completed a survey about the school grounds. In the survey there are questions concerning the use of the grounds and what the grounds have. We have included any comments and action plans that we have thought need to be included to help achieve the green flag.

The Astroturf has opened. Broken Fences on the tennis courts have been removed. New benches have been put around the school. The old D&T shed has been knocked down.

 We would like to add a log pile so that it will encourage more creatures to use it.  To have a wider variety of trees round the school.  To have bird boxes set up around the school to encourage more wild life to the area.  Encourage more departments to use the grounds for teaching which would help teach students learn more about the environment.

Contact the wood land trust to get free trees. We think we should contact the forestry commission to ask for a donation of logs. Use time in homework club to make bird boxes from off cuts of wood. We could plan to give departments a map of the grounds to highlight useful areas.
