Automatic Card Shuffler and Dealer Brian Cody Matt Erhard Justin Madigan

Introduction  Automatic card shuffler  Automatic card dealer – Various Games – Variable number of players

Why does this project exist?  Cheating is rampant in card games  Professional casinos often hire two guards per dealer  Shuffling and dealing introduce the largest possibility of cheating – Stacking the deck – Bottom-dealing

Project Description  Automatic shuffling and dealing of a standard 52-card deck  Deal for several different game types  Rotates to a player’s position and deals cards

Project Description  Three distinct components: – Shuffler/Rotating Base – Card dealer/ejector – User Interface/System Controller  Size: ~8” wide x 5” deep x 12” tall  Weight: Between 2 and 3 lbs.

Shuffler/Rotating Base  Standard store-bought card shuffler  Rotating base a stepper motor – Fastened to the shuffler base – Can rotate sufficient weight to turn card dealing mechanism

Shuffler/Rotating Base  Needn’t rotate 360°, so tangled wires not an issue  160° arc allows for 8 players evenly spaced 3 steps of the motor apart  Only deal to those positions and only if UI control is activated

Card Dealer/Ejector  Two-tiered design  Ejector servo or stepper with flexible flipper to feed cards  Cards are fed to an accelerator (two vertically stacked wheels)  Accelerator “shoots” cards  Accelerator may spin freely (DC motor)

Card Dealer/Ejector

User Interface  Intuitive UI  Relatively small physical area  Full functionality for all games Enclosure dimensions L = 3.35”, W=6.7”, H = 1.33”, D = 0.72”.

User Interface

System Controller  Inside the enclosure housing  Hidden from user entirely  Gives commands to motors and components  “Deals” cards and initiates shuffling  Comprised of PIC Microcontrollers
