3 General Purpose Classrooms are defined as any instructional space that is: Managed and scheduled by the Registrar Managed and scheduled by the Registrar Supports multiple users in several disciplines with multiple teaching styles Supports multiple users in several disciplines with multiple teaching styles Room resources are funded and maintained by centralized service support operations Room resources are funded and maintained by centralized service support operations

24 History of Classroom Technology 1960-1980 – Chalkboards & Projection Screens, everything else was portable, 16mm proj. & OH primary tool ODH opens 1981 – Installed VIDEO projectors (3 rooms) 1980-85 - VHS video begins, OH installed in classrooms 1985-90 – Video replaces 16mm and demand for video grows, computers begin finding their way into the classroom 1990-95 – OUNet is installed, LCD panels used to display computer images, Scan converted video projectors begin

25 History of Classroom Technology 1995 – First ITV classroom opened 1995 – LCD panels out and LCD video/data projectors in, Rooms begin to be equipped (10 rooms 5 building), initial video backbone installed 1996 – 2 nd & 3 rd ITV classrooms online 1997 – SEB Opens – New classroom standard, Level II 1998/99- Hannah Hall/Dodge Hall upgrades, Level II Fall 2000 -Elliott Hall Opens, Level III 2001- 205 & 206 VH & 124 WH, 266 SFH Upgrades, Mobile multimedia carts provided in SFH Fall 2002 -SEHS scheduled to open, Level III & IV

26 Classroom Technology Direction Academic Computing Committee Senate Committee Charge-advise Senate on all matters pertaining to the use of computers for instruction and research Classroom Improvement Committee University-wide Committee Charge-establish standards for the teaching and learning environment in the university’s existing and proposed general purpose classrooms.
