7 Stock Market Crash BUYING ON MARGIN: People had taken out loans to buy stock. When the stock went down, they could not pay the loan back.

16 The "NEW DEAL" Closed all Banks for 8 Days. Only let the strong banks reopen. Set up insurance (FDIC) for all bank accounts.

17 The "NEW DEAL" Alphabet Soup: FDR decided that the government had to fix the problems that caused the Great Depression. He created several government agencies to fix the economy.

18 Alphabet Soup 1. The PWA (Public Works Administration): Gave the states money to build roads, schools, and buildings. 2. The WPA (Works Progress Administration): Gave money to artists, writers, and anyone who could do any work. 3. The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps): Hired men to build bridges, parks and roads. 4. The TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority): Built Dams in the South and helped farmers.
