To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. To promote the adoption & the application of higher social, business, & professional standards. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, & serviceable citizenship. To provide, through Kiwanis Clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, & to build better communities. Burt Van Wagner & Joan 1/20 LAST WEEK UPCOMING EVENTS INVOCATION MARK YOUR CALENDARS! (1) Governor's Visit (Gov. Donna Batelaan)-March 2nd. This is an annual official visit to each Division. We need good representation from the Beaches Club. (2) Kiwanis College (formally Zone Conference) is scheduled in Lake City, March 11th. Last year, 10 Beaches members attended. (3) International Convention, June 28--July 2 in Montreal, Canada. Each club can elect 2 primary and 2 alternate delegates. The last Montreal Convention was great! As many as possible should plan to attend. Have a good Kiwanis experience, and a great short vacation in Canada. Bill Montgomery, Lt. Gov. We had a substitute speaker last week, but she was certainly no second stringer. Elaine Brown ably filled in for Kevin Hyde. Her speech covered many topics but central was her review of local media bias and the need for investment in international trade for Jacksonville through the Sister Cities program. You can let Kevin know that we didn't miss him, that much. This year it is being held at the FCCJ - Deerwood Campus, 9911 Old Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256. We need lots of volunteers, and Kiwanis has had a major presence in the past. People are needed as judges, to help arrange the tables for projects, to guide students and visitors during all four days of activity, scoring and tabulation, and much more.
