2 Rev. 2/3/06 Weyerhaeuser Environmental Policy  The Environmental Core Policy is the foundation of the EMS. The basics of the policy are: nComply with laws and regulations n Practice sustainable forestry n Reduce pollution n Conserve natural resources through recycling and waste reduction n Continually improve our environmental performance Failure to comply with this core policy could result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.

4 Rev. 2/3/06 The EMS is designed to meet the requirements of: Weyerhaeuser Sustainable Forestry Standard Our internal standard addressing our commitment to forest stewardship Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) A forest stewardship standard developed by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) ISO 14001 An international EMS standard

S ustainable F orestry I nitiative èA Forest Stewardship standard developed by the AF&PA containing nine principles: Sustainable Forestry Responsible Practices Reforestation and Productive Capacity Forest Health and Productivity Long-Term Forest and Soil Productivity Protection of Water Resources Protection of Special Sites and Biological Diversity Legal Compliance Continual Improvement

6 Rev. 2/3/06 The EMS is a structured way to control our environmental impacts and to meet the objectives of SFI and Weyerhaeuser’s Environmental Core Policy and Sustainable Forestry Standard

7 Rev. 2/3/06 In other words: The EMS is a Process for managing our Environmental Aspects while SFI is the standard by which we measure our success

8 Rev. 2/3/06 Environmental Aspects  Aspects are parts of our work that can cause environmental impact to water, air, soil, wildlife or the public.  Examples of environmental aspects include: Building roads across unstable slopes Spills of oil or other hazardous materials Soil compaction from ground equipment  The EMS relies on operational control procedures to control the significant environmental aspects of our work.

9 Rev. 2/3/06 Operational Control  Operational control procedures are used to manage our day-to-day activities to control environmental impacts.  Employees, contractors and suppliers need to understand and implement relevant operational control procedures.  Examples of operational control procedures include Harvesting, Road Construction, Regeneration, etc..

10 Rev. 2/3/06 Audit  The EMS includes requirements for auditing Western Timberlands’ performance at meeting the requirements of the EMS  The audit measures conformity to Weyerhaeuser Sustainable Forestry Standard, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the ISO 14001 standard

11 Rev. 2/3/06 Summary  Society demands that we control the impact that our business has on the environment  Our EMS is a structured way to manage our impacts on the environment  By controlling our impacts and meeting the objectives of SFI, we have 3rd party certification verifying our environmental commitment and performance Certified
