Student/Teacher Conference Carefully Choose a Time and Place for the Meeting. Consider Having a Third Party Present. Review Classroom Expectations. Seek to Understand Students’ Needs. For instance, does the student need to leave 15 minutes early each class? If so, could the student sit at the back of the room?

Written Documentation Identify the Behavior. Define Impact. Direct that Behavior is Expected to Stop. Identify Consequence. Indicate that All Students Are Expected to Abide by These Expectations. Example 1 Example 2

Directive Not to Return to Class / Summary Restriction (Interim Suspension) When the Student is Unwilling or Unable to Stop the Disruptive Behavior: Take the Immediate Actions You Need to Resolve the Disruption Inform Students They Are Not to Return to Class Until They Have Met with You, You and Colleague, or a Dean of Students Office Staff Member IMMEDIATELY Consult with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students Office Will Need a Written Report and Will Consider Issuing a Summary Restriction.
