2 WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES –To explain the CDIO approach to engineering education –To describe strategies for engineering education reform that can be applied in a wide variety of engineering programs –To facilitate networking of engineering educators who are interested in CDIO –To suggest ways to get started with the implementation of CDIO

CDIO Overview Explains the motivation and need for engineering education reform and the goals, vision, and pedagogical foundation of CDIO. Describes the key characteristics of a CDIO program. Daryl Boden 11.00 – 11.15Break 11.15 – 12.452. Curriculum and Course Design Describes the content, structure, and rationale of the CDIO Syllabus. Explains curriculum structure, learning outcomes, and the mapping, sequencing, and integration of CDIO knowledge and skills. Gives examples from CDIO programs.. Designing Project-Based Learning Experiences Explains the rationale for design-build experiences, suggests guidelines for these experiences and gives examples from CDIO programs. Gives examples of how leanring spaces can be re-tasked to support a CDIO approach. Daryl Boden 15.30 – 15.45Break 15.45 – 17.454. Engaging Students in Their Learning Gives examples of active and experiential learning methods that have been shown to be effective in CDIO programs. Highlight suggestions for enhancing competence in teaching personal and interpersonal skills; process, product and system building skills; teaching and assessment methods.
