1 How to submit a completed manuscript Sadeghi Ramin, MD Nuclear Medicine Research Center, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences

2 Type of submissions The easiest mode of submission is online submission Using especial software Editorial manager,etc Using e.mail

3 Type of submissions The hardest way is my mail Fortunately almost all journals are shifting to online submission

4 A tip If you can find the e.mail of the editor of a journal you can mail him/her your manuscript and ask if they will accept it for reviewing process without hardcopy mailing

7 A tip Always check the spam or junk folder of your e.mail Some important e.mails can go to the spam folder

8 Online submission Majority of journals have online submission systems Before sending the manuscript be sure that you have prepared all the required items of the submission Copyright transfer Permissions Figures Others

9 Online submission Usually there is a checklist in the end of the information for authors of the journal which lists the important issues not to be forgotten

12 Title page Usually contains The title Authors Name and affiliation of authors A short running head Name, address, Tel, Fax, and e.mail of the corresponding author and who is responsible for reprint request

13 Title page Sometimes the title page should be send in a separate file in order to keep the blind reviewing process.

16 Group work Prepare a title page for a journal. Follow the instructions of that journal

17 Forms need to be filled or signed The journal usually inform you that some forms need to be completed for online submission Print these forms, complete. Scan them. The JPG format picture of these forms can be e.mailed or be uploaded to the journal. The complete form can be faxed to the editorial office.

23 Forms need to be filled or signed Some journals requires these forms to be in pdf format. The scanned jpg format can be converted with acrobat distiller or writer

26 Cover letter Almost all journals needs a cover letter with the manuscript. Do not make a big deal out of it. Sometimes the information for authors ask the authors to mention specific items in the cover letter. Be sure to mention them.

29 Cover letter Some journals have downloadable cover letters. These cover letters can be downloaded and used easily.

31 What to mention in the cover letter The paper has not been published before or is not now under consideration elsewhere Disclose any conflict of interest Mention that you have enclose any permission or relevant ethical committees.

32 What to mention in the cover letter Sometimes you can mention very briefly what the manuscript is about and how important it is for the field of your specialty. You can also mention why you have chosen that journal for manuscript submission

33 What to mention in the cover letter Some journals need you to mention in the cover letter that all authors have contributed to the research and all have reviewed the manuscript.

36 Conflict of interest Usually any financial support of the study which can cause any conflict of interest should be mentioned in the cover letter or in a special form. Usually the case for RCTs of new drugs

40 Registration After registration check your e.mail (including the junk or spam folders) to find the registration e.mail which usually has the link to the online submission system

42 Registration If you have forgotten your password and username you can always recover the password Sometimes you need to contact the publisher be free to do so

48 Preparing the images Journals usually have instructions for preparing figures regarding size and resolution. What you need is adobe photoshop
