2 Slide 4.2 To reduce the risk of being infected with HIV the easiest thing for any person to do is treat all blood and other body fluids as though they contain HIV or other viruses, bacteria, etc

3 Slide 4.3 A common name for anything that has or might have a person’s blood or some other body fluid on it or in it bio-hazardous

4 Slide 4.4 Any material used for injecting drugs (needles and syringes, swabs, dressings, bandages, and “band-aids”) is likely to have blood in it or on it even though you can’t see it.

8 If you come in contact with blood or body fluids, you should Slide 4.8 1.Flush the area with running water 2.Wash the area with plenty of warm water and soap 3.Report the incident to the appropriate staff member 4.Record the incident via an appropriate reporting procedure 5.Seek medical advice

9 If you have a needle-stick injury Slide 4.9 Wash the wound with soap and water If soap and water aren't available, use alcohol- based hand rubs or solutions If you are at work, notify your supervisor or other appropriate officer. You may need to fill out a special form Go to your doctor, or to the nearest hospital emergency department

10 A good needle and syringe disposal container Slide 4.10 1.Strong so that a needle cannot puncture it and stick out of it 2.The needle can’t come out of once it is in it 3.People will know has a needle in it. This is important because otherwise children or other people may pick it up and possibly injure themselves 4.You can carry around with you or at least have in a Police Car. 5.Obtained easily.
