US SECTION 508 IS IN PROCESS OF “REFRESH” Applies to US federal agencies requiring agencies to develop, procure, maintain, and use ICT that best meet its criteria. Current Section 508 criteria was written in 1998. Stakeholder committee, including representatives from Canada, Japan, Australia, and European Commission, (TEITAC) formed in Sep 2006 to propose a “refresh”. Report submitted in Apr 2008 Initial draft (ANPRM) of refresh by the US Access Board released in March 2010. Second draft (NPRM) expected in 2011 Emulated at State government level

SECTION 255 Applies to telecom equipment manufacturers and service providers. Applies to landline phones, mobile phones, and interconnected VOIP traditional telecom functionalities. Section 255 is required if readily achievable. FCC is responsible for Section 255. Access Board draft (Section 508 ANPRM) contains Section 255 proposal which is nearly identical to the Section 508 from technical perspective. It is up to FCC to consider the proposal.
