2 Arts and Education…. …is more than just teaching ABOUT the arts. The arts, such as music, dance, drama, and visual art,can be utilized as learning tools in any subject.

3 Our goals as arts educators…. …are not to train the next Mozart, Picasso, or Baryshnikov. While many students can realize talent and aspirations through the arts, many more can unlock methods to learning.

4 Differentiated Instruction…. …is essential for addressing diverse learning needs in our classrooms. The arts can provide a backdrop for teaching and assessment that are unique, challenging, and exciting for children.

5 Example of Arts and Differentiated Instruction -Pretend you are a soldier in the continental army. Write a letter home describing to your family all of the places and battles you’ve lived through. Who was there? What happened? What do you think will happen next? --In small groups, perform a skit of an event of the Revolutionary War. Who is in the scene? What is their role? How does the event begin and end? What is the climax of the event? A written script should be handed in as well. --Write a song about a person or event of the Revolutionary War. --Create a tableaux of: The Boston Tea Party, The Battle of Lexngton and Concord, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
