7 Channel Flow Alteration Water withdrawals and inputs from the stream have potential to affect habitat conditions and change the biological and conditions of the stream.

8 Percent Embeddedness Embeddedness measures the degree to which cobble substrate is surrounded by fine sediment It can only be evaluated in riffle and run habitats. At least 50 measurements

10 Canopy/Shade This element is the measurement of shade across the active channel. Shading of the stream is important because it keeps water cool and limits the growth of less preferred types of algal.

11 Riparian Width/Condition “Riparian area” is the width of the natural vegetation zone from the edge of the active channel (or normal water line) out onto the flood plain.

12 Habitat Available for Native Species This assessment element measures availability of physical habitat for native Hawaiian stream organisms. (1) Seeps and Springs (2) Pools (3) Runs (4) Riffles (5) Cascades

13 Litter Trash The presence of litter, trash and fish or animal carcasses are obvious signs of stream degradation. Assess the presence in both the wetted area and riparian zone.

Average Actual Width -- 5 measurements and take an average Velocity and Depth-10 times and take an average Flow Status -high, normal or low Flow-velocity x average cross section
