2 CPD@york How do we define CPD? Courses and programmes that are marketed to employers and employees Short courses, non credit bearing courses, part time distance learning degrees Almost every department or centre has some CPD activity

5 National and International Activities Convened national HE CPD managers network – The Training Gateway 1000 members, every UK HEI HEFCE funded since feb 08 and launched in July 08 To promote business opportunities to Uk Universities Workshops with HEFCE, DIUS, BERR etc to discuss priorities of funders and government Won Times Higher Award in Nov 2008 Working with Business Support Organisations Professional associations, sector skills councils Working with UKTI International missions to Syria, Jordan, Malaysia and others Inward missions from Slovenia, Libya, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Syria

7 The future Maintain our leading role in national and international activities Develop opportunities for academics to engage with business – networks, professional associations, promotional activities, alumni esp. Chevenings Work with departments to help them better meet employer needs through CPD or masters training courses Raise the awareness amongst employers of the various part-time study provision available in HEIs (eg. by direct marketing, promotional activities etc.). Inform employers (and employees) of the various government subsidies and funding opportunities available for those partaking in part-time study Develop framework for CPD certificates
