3 Institutional Scholarships  Financial aid that does not have to be repaid  Offered by the college or university  Usually awarded due to academics, extracurricular participation, or personal accomplishments Scholarships 40 Years of Training Champions for Christ

6 Federal  Stafford Loan (Student)  Subsidized – Need-based as determined by the FAFSA, other aid sources and educational costs ; the U.S. Department of Education pays the interest on the loan while the student is enrolled at least half-time  Unsubsidized – Not need-based; the student pays the interest while in school or it can be capitalized Loans 40 Years of Training Champions for Christ

7 Federal  Direct PLUS (Parent)  For credit-worthy parents of dependent undergraduate students  Students whose parents are denied the Parent PLUS Loan due to adverse credit may be eligible to receive an additional $4,000 or $5,000 in unsubsidized loans Loans 40 Years of Training Champions for Christ

9 Federal Work Study (FWS)  Federal Work Study is an opportunity to work and earn income for your college education while in school.  Federal Work Study is a federally funded program that awards based on need as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  This program provides part-time on and off-campus jobs for qualifying undergraduate resident students.  Multiple studies have shown that students who work no more than 20 hours a week are more engaged in the activities of their campus, often have higher grade point averages and manage their time more effectively. 10 F ree A pplication F or F ederal S tudent A id 40 Years of Training Champions for Christ FAFSA  In order to determine eligibility for federal and some state and institutional aid, most colleges and universities require students to complete the FAFSA each academic year.  Students and parents must apply for a PIN number in order to electronically sign the online form: www.pin.ed.govwww.pin.ed.gov  Once PINs have been received, the FAFSA may be completed online: www.fafsa.ed.gov www.fafsa.ed.gov

15 Once you find a scholarship, check ALL qualifications and guidelines.  Be aware that some scholarships come with conditions. You may have to pay the scholarship back if all of the conditions are not met.  Watch for the word “AND.”  Prepare a résumé.  Gather at least three references (ex. educational, personal, professional).  Presentation is everything! Go the extra mile. Professionalism is key. Attention to Details
