1 ABLE instructors must plan lessons and produce lesson plans. This helps focus the learning process on student goals and needs articulated in the students’ ILPs. Lesson plans can take many forms. They may be produced for individuals students or classes. At a minimum a lesson plan include: –Expected outcomes of the activity; –Ohio standards, components of performance and benchmarks being addressed; –Activities, materials and resources that will be used to teach the process and content being addressed; –Methods that will be used to assess learning gains; and –An estimated timeline for completing the instruction. 2007 OPAS Manual Curriculum and Instruction 6.7

2 Lesson Plan Outcomes Time Frame Benchmarks Assessment Evidence Standard COPs Activities Curricular Resources Materials Outcomes are the end results of the lesson. What do you want the students to be able to do as a result of instruction? This is where you state the reason for the lesson. Why is the lesson important to the students? The Components of Performance (COPs) are the parts of the Standard. To perform the standard, each component must be addressed in your lesson, but not necessarily all the benchmarks. Describe what you will do during the lesson. The amount of detail will vary depending on the lesson, instructor and audience - more detail may be needed if other teachers will be using your plan. Explain how you will know if the students have achieved the lesson’s objective. How will we show we know it? Student Goals

3 When developing a lesson plan template, remember that the primary elements are required while the secondary elements may be added to enhance the planning process.
