1 IDEAS Institute for the Development of Education in the Advanced Sciences

2 The “Gen*NY*sis of IDEAS The Gen*NY*sis Project from the New York State Legislature was a biotechnology funding initiative. Hofstra University and other Long Island Institutions submitted proposals to participate in this funding on behalf the advancement of science and technology.

3 Outreach functions Funding helped to build the state of the art Hagedorn Hall to enhance the education of science and technology teachers. The IDEAS Center was established in Hagedorn Hall in order to advance the professional development of science and technology teachers and to promote the public understanding of science.

4 Collaboration is key Scientists, science educators, and administrators working toward meeting these important goals; Board members facilitate the design of workshops and public lectures; Lobbying for the highest quality science and technology education in Washington, DC.

5 Member of the Triangle Coalition A nationally recognized organization that unites education, business, and government to affect policy and mobilize resources to improve attitudes, interest, and achievement in mathematics, science and technology education. March 16: The Science Education Summit.

6 Triangle Coalition and the Science Education Summit The purpose of the 2004 conference is to inform conference participants about current legislative issues both at a National and State level that are or will be having an effect on their local science, math, and technology education initiatives. The conference will focus on current topics such as No Child Left Behind and the Higher Education Act and their separate and collective impacts on local school improvement efforts.
