2 FYPs supervised by KH Wong2 Khw1101 Music signal processing CS/CE In this research students can work on a project related to music signal processing. For example: (1) Music database search -- you sing a tune to a computer, it will tell you the name of the song. (2) Automatic karaoke -- the karaoke system will follow your singing tempo and emotion. (3) Or a music related project you suggest. You may have to use some signal processing modules/techniques such as Fourier transform and pitch extraction. The working platform can be PC, IPHONE or ANDRIOD.

3 FYPs supervised by KH Wong3 Khw1102 Natural user interface using KINECT KINECT is a new 3D sensing device by Microsoft for capturing the 3D structure of the environment in real-time. It is used with the XBOX360 for enabling playing games using your body as the input device. It can capture your body shape, body pose and hand gesture. Therefore, it is an ideal user interface not just for playing games but also for issuing commands to computers. This project is targeted to develop a user interfacing method which can be used in games, operating systems or any novel applications you may suggest. 4 FYPs supervised by KH Wong4 Khw1103 A visual surveillance system for sea search and rescue missions CS/CE This is an ongoing project. The aim of this research is to develop a vision based system to assist the aircrew in search and rescue operations at sea. During the stormy season, the Government flying service of Hong Kong (http://www.gfs.gov.hk/ ) will send out fixed wing planes to search for survivors after a maritime accident is reported. The search may last up to 5 hours and is now being conducted by the naked eyes to search for life rafts from a height of 500 ft. It is a fatigue job and targets may be missed because of human errors. Therefore the Government flying service has initiated a project on using computer vision techniques to assist the aircrew to detect life rafts at sea. The group will develop embedded computer vision techniques for this application. Students may carry out flying tests on planes if desired during the development stage.http://www.gfs.gov.hk/
