1 Data Analysis Framework for DHC Tower Update - 07/28/2003 Kurt Francis - Northern Illinois University

2 Introduction I’m using ROOT to develop an Analysis Framework for the data coming from 84 channel/cell tower Want to create a software with a user interface that: –Analyzse data from each of the 84 channels the same way so that they can be compared –Sets parameters with buttons and other controls –Removes pedestal and crosstalk –Fits multiple gaussians, poissons and landau curves to histogram (all 84 channels) –Enters data conditionally into histograms (for example only add event data from Channel X if events from Channels Y and Z are in MIP range) –Displays channel data by layer or column –Displays Scatter plots

3 Current Status Using ROOT because I was able to get up and running quickly I now have simple software that: –Reads one of my flat data files –Displays the histograms of a layer of 7 cells –Allows me to click on one histogram to expand it to make it easier to see

6 Problems Still have difficulty with system not compiling and linking correctly Still can’t create user interface because of these linking problems

7 Next Steps Immediate next steps –experiment with fitting examples –switch between layers –at very least get mean and sigma for any channel we want Longer term next steps –learn how to compile instead of just interpret code –include user interface ‘widgets’ –write code to remove pedestal –write code to removed crosstalk
