2 What this is about There is dark matter… …so we would like to find an annihilation signature of it… … in the Fermi gamma-ray background… … using spectral and spatial information as tools… … but it is difficult… … and we would like to quantify how difficult it is… … and try to find clever ways around the difficulties

10 What next? Theoretical predictions of CGB intensity spectra, angular power spectra need to be updated using new data from Fermi [blazars, SF galaxies] How much uncertainty in these models? Sources of false positives: –What spectral signals may look like dark matter? (pulsars? EBL? Other?) –What anisotropy signatures may look like dark matter? –What astrophysical populations / processes may induce modulations in the anisotropy energy spectrum? (e.g. EBL horizon, redshifting of spectral features) In which scenarios is a DM feature detectable ? In which scenarios can individual contributions be deconvolved? How many can we separate? Andy Strong’s Observable : Time-dependence: should go down in a predictable way; Define flux sensitivity which is assumed in each case George Lake’s test : in any given model for background, how many point sources should I already have detected?
