27 2006 SLC Annual Retreat SWOT Analysis Strengths Students feel that participating in PEER has been a positive experience. Most students are happy with their faculty mentoring— particularly regarding academic experiences. More than 75% of students agree that participation in PEER will provide for competitive advantage for future employment. Students are happy with PEER online resources. Weaknesses The percentage of students happy with their industry interactions has increased since 2003, but students are still not satisfied with the amount of their industry interaction. Only 15% of students have been offered help with writing grants. Collaborative opportunities within PEER are up from last year (42% in 2005, 60% in 2006), but are still not available to the extent desired.

28 2006 SLC Annual Retreat SWOT Analysis Opportunities A majority of students felt that they would like to pursue collaborations with students at other PEER institutions. Students use the PEER website regularly, so this is likely to be an effective place for disseminating research results. A majority of the students know their SLC representative (74%) and are aware of SLC activities (64%), but 17% of students were not satisfied with the amount of information they received from their SLC rep. Threats Lack of industry collaboration may hurt students who wish to work in industry after finishing their education.
